I am new to MCNLive never heard of it but it is really fantastic, I am trying getting it to work on CF also.

I am trying to make a live install to CF in stead of USB. The CF inserted in a CF to IDE adapter, so the device acts as a HDD: /dev/hda1

I hacked the mkmcnlive script in order to get /dev/hda1 in the list in stead of the /dev/sd[a-h] devices. So far so good. I modified the syslinux.cfg by removing the 'fromusb' code.

The system starts booting but somehow it expects a loop image at /dev/sda1 at the line where it is searching for the loop image. So there seems still be problem in the init script can somebody help me here?

TIA

It looks like it must be something in the linuxrc file, no /dev/hd[a-t] devices are put in the
CDROM_LIST because they have no "cdrom" in the /proc/ide/ide0/hda/media file, which makes sense when booting from CD but why exclude CF-IDE. Still have to validate this when booting from CD.
So in the findcloop() function it goes wrong.

I am a bit reluctant to edit this script but suppose I edit the script how can I get the modified script in the live image in an easy way to test things?

interesting idea, and one well worth me looking into for a carputer i'm building.

the one things that i would ask, ok 2, how big is the cf card, and, not having ever used one, how is it formatted?

i would imagine that since your using it in an ide interface and its being treated as a HD then instead of using the USB install you would be using the INSTALL to HD?

like i said i havent used one, but I have tried to turn MCNL every which way but loose in understanding it.
