When I want to install packages on the bottom of screen I see amount of "free disc space". In my case it's around 160mb- which is really not enough (just open office has >200mb)

how can I increase this disc space? My USB flash is 1Gb and there's nothing on it except MCNLive.

One thing you could do is uninstall packages/features that you know you will never need. Only install stuff of which you know for sure nothing else depends on it. You can remove software through the Mandriva Control Center - > Software. This way, you'll free up some discspace you can use for other software you want to add.

I never used a usb stick for Mcnlive, so I don't know whether you have to 'remaster' it, or whether that only is necessary for CD's...

Anyway, if needed, and if you use the recent most MCNLive editions (e.g. VirtualCity), you can remaster 'your' MCNLive version with added/removed software. How to do this is explained in documentation/mcnlive.org/on this forum. There might be a sticky post in this forum about it - not sure however.
With your remastered version, next time you boot with it, it will completely be without the removed software, and with the packages you added.


Another thing you could do is buy a larger USB stick. At codima.be for instance, kingston 2 GB is only 18.50 euro, a no-name 4GB is 35 euro at this moment.

That is a bit misleading, this info. In fact you have a lot more, but the package manager thinks you don't. Because it does not check the free space on your usb stick but the amount of RAM. You are running your OS in RAM at this point.
If you see this complain, just click on: go on anyway (or something like that)

The only thing what can happen is that you would run out of RAM - and the whole system freezes at this point. Which is nothing to worry about - just reboot or hard reset, you are running a live system that you can't destroy :-)

How much RAM has your notebook?

For installing a lot of add. big programs and remastering you need a lot of RAM.

PS: your usb stick is Ok with 1 GB :-)

it has 512mb of ram.
yes, you're right it freeze everytime when i try to install something >100mb
anyway, i was just playin' with things, it doesn't make sense to download 100mb and loose it as u switch computer off.

(i am one of the people who support ability of MCNL to optionally save settings and all programs- but i know developements opinion from documentation-so OK)
