Edit, 03-05-2007
I've removed the RC1 from the server. There is a bug in the 'halt' script which can lead -in some rare cases' to problems.
Meanwhile it is fixed. I am uploading soon a new version and will announce it here.
Please be patient.

_______________

Hi all,

in the process of uploading the first RC of the upcoming MCNLive.

27-04-2007 Release notes MCNLive-Delft-RC1.iso, 374,4 MB

md5sum:
13bd9b390efa72f106bbd4a59db01e5a MCNLive-Delft-RC1.iso

This is the first release candidate for the upcoming MCNLive-Delft edition.

* Based on and 100% compatible with Mandriva Linux 2007.1 Spring
* Included wifi drivers. No closed source nvidia and ati driver.
* 3D desktop - Beryl, compiz and Metisse - for most Intel and ATI cards.
* KDE desktop with a set of internet, music and video applications, games and some more.
* 4 languages preinstalled: English (default), Dutch, French, Italian :-)

Features - as known from earlier editions
* Install additional software live, preconfigured sources
* Graphical wizard to create a Live USB on a USB stick or external hard disk
* copy2ram - run the entire system from internal memory
* Install to hard disk, with the Mandriva draklive-install wizard
* Make your own live version on-the-fly, while running from CD or from USB
* Switch to a different language on-the-fly ... or add the missing language

New and/or improved features
* Improved wizard: Backup - Restore Home
* New: Keep all system wide changes, make them persist. Stored in a loop image.
A wizard to set up the loop disk on a internal hard disk or external removable drive.
The bootcode 'livecd persist' will enable it.
* Improved: Remaster-on-the-fly got a graphical wizard.
* The boot code 'livecd ntfsrw' will mount all NTFS filesystems read-write, default is read-only.
* New boot code: vesa
It is a sort fall-back for the (very few) video cards that do not play nicely with the automatic configuration and would end up in non-graphical mode. 'vesa' will pick the vesa driver and uses a 1024x768 resolution for the monitor.
This boot code is also handy for booting in VirtualBox and VMware.

'Delft' is meant as a base system for most desktops and notebooks, with the 3D desktop fun. And all the stunning Mandriva tools. No Office Suite included, no printer drivers.
'Delft' enables you to create your own full-featured office version. Or add your own software and use the 'livecd persist' boot code.
After this release we possibly will work on an edition with VirtualBox included.

What the heck is 'Delft'?

Please note: it is not yet the final. Please report any bugs and problems and help us to improve it. smile.gif
After you finished the download of the iso, don't forget to verify the md5sum. And burn it on a low speed.

First thing when i look at the wallpaper, of the screenie, is that the background color is not exactly the same as the backgroundcolor on the left and right of the image. The background color should be 3b3b3b according to the Gimp.

I guess it is because of the jpg. When i see it live it's ok.

The first bugs.

1) ipv6 though globally disabled in /etc/sysconfig/network: is not getting disabled in /etc/modprobe.conf
A MDV 2007.1 bug, it seems.
Quick solution, in a terminal:

CODE
su
echo "alias net-pf-10 off" >>/etc/modprobe.conf

2)The wizard 'Remaster Live -advanced' needs an additional package :

CODE
su
urpmi bc

Not a bug, but an improvement for the final.

I just made two wizards even more simple and more userfriendly, thx to Maurice and Michel for 'pushing' ( ... though I must say it's far too nice weather to sit at the computer, summer in the city and at the canals): creating the persistent loop file, remaster-on-the-fly

Tested, running nice.

Delft running well. I had to do two things to make it run well on my laptop (Dell Latitude 620):
- as root: XFdrake --> set screen to 1280x800
- as root: iwconfig + ifconfig + dhclient to get my wireless running.
Now go test the packages....

I think I will create a hard-disk install, to create a nice-running boot-image on usb. I will let you know how it works!

Rockingbilly, can you answer two questions:

* to which resolution did it boot before you ran XFdrake? Which video card? (I keep forgetting your hardware, sorry)

* In the MCNLive menu, there is a menu entry: Configure wireless
It is just a direct call of the (graphical) MCC --> drakroam
This did not work?
jerome hess
i know i shouldnt but i'm using this as a platform for my wifes pc,

everything seems to be working, the advanced wizard didnt work, but i only tried once and i believe its a directory issue on my end, gave a insufficient space error.

otherwise things are moving nicely,

since its not a 'production pc' in daily use, i add functions slowly and remaster after each one.

i;m attempting to mimc mine, which was built on the VC platform

another awesome job kris

1024x800 (As I recall it)

No, I had already figured out what settings my wireless card (Cisco) needed in the previous McnLive. I tried to fill in these data in the wizzard. Did not succeed. Then I did it the old way: three commands in a konsole.

The network stuff is -as always- a pain. With every release MDV changes the config and init files, and Spring seems in this regard worse.

I need to go back to their default setup for the live cd. Otherwise the WIFI people are in trouble, a long delay, a not configured network and so on. I guess I even have to re-add this annoying net_applet, it seems to be involved in the network 'detection', oh my. It eats 23 MB RAM bye.gif , and is constantly pinging a mandriva host. What a waste.

The result is that we will see (kernel) error messages about ipv6 which are no errors - same on MDV One but they start in silent mode.

I got this in my PB box, someone pressed the wrong button:

Now this is a real Windows killer that any newbie could love. I am just blown away by this distro. I have tried to run more than 20 different live CD distros from a USB flashdrive and this is the first and only one that works and actually saves settings to the same drive. Amazing. Not only that but Beryl runs flawlessly on my 1yr-old Toshiba laptop and loads at startup. Packages are installed effortlessly. Everything works the same way on desktop machines that I've tried it with. The only problem I ever have is some sound distortion on my laptop which I'm confident I'll be able to track down. This distro should be MUCH better known. You guys need to get out the trumpets and announce the arrival of the new king. Congratulations!

Thank you, bruc33ef.

Now,lets hope we do succeed to make it easier for non-dutch users to use this forum smile.gif

Your sound: Try to run kmix and play with it. Most likely a switch ... something that has to be disabled on your toshiba.
Or kde control center --> disable arts, that's called 'sound system' ...
