Downloading now...

Not the latest remaster-advanced (the one I posted a few days ago) in it?
There were a number of stupid errors in the one before that...
kris
I don't know which version. I asked you in the dev forum but can't remember an answer.
But I had a lot of network/hardware problems. now I can't connect at all with my desktop pc.
Priority was to get out the version, before my computer is dying ...
mzee
Chris,

Thank you very much.

Am also downloading... Will let you have my comments!

Here I am ...

Once more : thank you for your efforts.

Delft-RC3 is almost perfect. except for two small details :
- at boottime that list of missing rpms (gcc, ncurses, make, nvidia, glibc ...) is still there
- using opera is still a problem; it appears "NETWORKING_IPV6=no" is missing in /etc/sysconfig/network

1. I asekd you in the former version for the exact missing packages. I don't have these messages. What is the first package? Do you have an nvidia video card? Do you use the original RC3 or a modified?

2. look for ipv6 in: /etc/modprobe.conf
Please post the content here. You should see here something ..
Do you have problem surfing with opera or do you just miss this line NETWORKING_IPV6=no? It is missing because it does not work. It is replaced with something else ;-)

Edit: I guess using rc.local for disabling ipv6 is a little bit too late, though it writes the correct entry to /etc/modprobe.conf, it does not work becuase the network is alreday up at this stage.

The ipv6 problem in MDV Spring is a confirmed bug, and the given solution in the errata does not work either, also confirmed.

My workaround does not work either, :-P
mzee: you can try ... start the RC3, terminal, su, type: service network restart

Thank you for prompt attention.

As I wrote you, the names of those rpms are passing on the screen so fast. And they do not show with 'dmesg'. I remember 'binutils' and 'libbinutils' were also there. If I remember well the first one was nvidia, but I'll let you know if it isn't true.
Yes, I have an old nvidia video card. And for the moment I am using the original RC3.

/etc/modprobe.conf seems OK. The last statement is : "alias net-pf-10 off"
My only problem is surfing with Opera ... "NETWORKING_IPV6=no" is missing in /etc/sysconfig/network
start the RC3, terminal, su, type: service network restart

Am sorry but this doesn't help neither.
It is strange : konqueror si working as required but there are everytime problems with Opera.
I remastered RC1 and adapted /etc/modprobe.conf and /etc/sysconfig/network. And I could surf with Opera. Will try to remaster RC3 as well. And let you have my remarks.

Best Regards.

Oki, I now see wat mzee is talking about.
Using on old somewhat slow PC with nvidia card. Most people won't see it because it is too fast.

It is not a bug but a feature of the drakxtools, unfortunately a confusing one. And for my taste un-wanted. Why would someone want to automatically use the closed-source nvidia drivers?

I can disable it very easy, by just disabling the non-free urpmi-sources. It is a usability question and what people would prefer with nvidia video:

* have this very fast scrolling message when booting, called error and it is not an error
* don't have these messages, but disabled non-free sources (one has to enable it in MCC with a click later, there are some packages esp. for tv-cards which are useful, and not included in MCNLive)

What sholud we do?

What should we do?

Guess you do not change anything in this respect. Those messages do not hurt ... Not that many people have a PC with an old nvidia video card.

ipv6: mzee, sigh.

I tried to explain the ipv6 problem more than once, for virtual city, cherbourg and so on.

It is not an opera problem, it is just that one can't disable ipv6 in opera 'manually'. In konqueror and kde in general ipv6 is disabled system wide. That's why you don't have this problem in konqui.

Also, please be patient. Nobody else here has this ipv6 problem, only you (with your special provider who has broken hardware), we can't reproduce it.

If you have a remastered RC1 iso 'without' this problem, and I mean: without this problem running LIVE, then please tell me exactly what you did.

After an installation to HD you won't see this problem!!!!!!!! It is a problem of the *automatic* detection and configuring of the network devices on a LIVE system.

The missing: NETWORKING_IPV6=no
It did not work on a LIVE system, thats why it is not there. I already explained that this is a mdv bug, in the other thread.

Am always using MCNL live as LIVE, either from CD but since last year booting with grub and 'fromusb' as option.

What I did for RC1 was :
- in /etc/modprobe.conf : "alias net-pf-10 off"
- "NETWORKING_IPV6=no" in /etc/sysconfig/network
- '/etc/rc.local' adapted as you suggested

Have a nice week-end!

Wait, Georges. Can you help me?
Very easy.

Start the RC3 CD. Without 'persist' bootcode!

Just change one line in /etc/sysconfig/network -- here add the: NETWORKING_IPV6=no
Don't change anything lese. Don't install add. progs. Don't change etc/modprobe.conf, don't chnage rc.local ....

And make a remaster, with 'only this one line changed'.
And can you try to burn and start the remastered CD? And report if this solves the problem?

Dear Chris,

Did everything just the way you asked it. But to no avail. The Opera ipv6 problem remains.

Suggest we drop the topic since nobody else experiences the same problem.

Anyway, I wish to thank you for your kind attention.

Maybe let you know that I got an error while remastering :
"mv -f /mnt/sda6/tmp/mklivecd.4727/livecd/isolinux[ 95.51% 00:00:07/00:00:07]sh:
line 1: 4887 Broken pipe /bin/zcat /tmp/initrd.gz 2>/dev/null
4888 Segmentation fault | /bin/cpio -t >&/dev/null"

Nevertheless the final result was : "The remaster was created successfully!"

Best Regards

kris
Thx, mzee.

Bad news: you can't even unload the ipv6 kernel modules while running live.
This time MDV messed the network scripts *really*.

Good news: for your personal remaster you can do this (that was a nasty thing I did on RC1 but don't want to do this in the final):

su
cd /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
mv init.ipv6-global blah.init.ipv6-global
exit

The error while re-building the iso: does not harm. we all get this ;-)
kris
We have a final Delft version. I am uploading it now. So, you all can already stop downloading the RC3 biggrin.gif

There are small but essential bug fixes in the final. For example I forgot to clean the resolv.conf file, so those with a fixed IP or a delayed wifi card detection initially got my nameserver entry :-P

The Remaster Live - advanced is fixed by HighKing.
konsole got a different transparence so it becomes readable.
Unfortunately the ipv6 issue is still there. Those very few with this problem: please use konqueror.

The iso will be on the mirrors tomorrow, European time, if all goes well.
Wait for the official announcement.
